The Mission: To allow safe participation in recreational sports activities.
The "Just" People Sports Program was started to meet the demand of our consumers wanting to participate in recreational sports activities. We started in 2000 with one softball team but have grown to over 100 clients participating in events and leagues throughout the year. “Just” People Sports and Nutrition program is only possible because of donations and volunteer work from our staff and family members.
"Just" People, Inc. offers a variety of team and individual sports throughout the year. We have 85 registered athletes with Special Olympics Georgia and participate in local, state and regional Special Olympics events. We work with Alta’s program for Adults with Developmental Disabilities (Special Pops). One of our Case Managers volunteers as their Head Coach!
We have a gym facility with tread mills, aerobics area, weights and a basketball half-court. Our day support staff, sports coordinator and coaches work together to create a consistent workout program to be benefit our clients overall health.
This weekend the group attended Special Olympics Georgia at Emory University. Inspiring our group to participate in sports is incredibly important to me. As I say to them constantly, “I want you living until at least 130, minimum.” But aside from the obvious benefits of health and wellness gained in participating in sports, there is far more to take away: discipline, teamwork and sportsmanship. They have spent countless hours over the course of months, practicing with their dedicated coaches to achieve their personal best while encouraging their peers to do the same. Whether it was a team sport, such as volleyball or individual discipline like swimming or table tennis, their support and morale did not waver. They earned each gold, silver and bronze medals they were awarded. A message to all athletes from this weekend: I feel lucky to witness your resilience and host of achievements. You are all undeniably remarkable!
